Butch - sorry I missed your post, I just realized that hundreds of people had tried to write comments and they were all being held back for moderating. Sorry about all this. I've been busy with my business, and had little time to follow up with the blog.
In any case, the fishing was off this year, we did catch lots of fish, but very small walleye mostly. I caught some trout - I mean BIG trout, up the reservoir, you know when it sort of turns into a river, at the opposite end of the dam.
I got hammered twice on a red thin fin, 2 18 inch speckled trouts, they were beautiful. I think I have the pictures somewhere. I'll try to post them.

you'll find excellent walleye fishing spots all around the island.
Lac Saint Louis and the Boucherville islands are noth excellent areas. In the summer, fish the seaway channel, fall fish the flats in 20-30 feet of water.
Vertical jigging while controlling your boat with an electric motor work great - just use soft plastic bait on a half ounce jig.
LJM - I don't know who the best outfitter is.
I've been to a few of them.
I would say if you have some mney to spare, definitely fly up to the northern part of the lake, the area sustains less pressure, the fly-in experience is excellent. You fly in with Air Mont Laurier to a sector called Lac du Male. It cost me and a friend $750 each for 4 days on a european plan. It was without a doubt the most productive walleye trip I've ever been on, we caugth and released well over 100 2-4 pound walleyes.
You can rent a houseboat also, which we did and had a great time there as well. I posted that trip here:
houseboat Trip to Gouin
Farhan, take your kid to the docks at the end of Matte Boulevard, where the soccer fields are next to the highway. Bring some worms, hooks, a bobber, and you can catch perch, sunfish, rock bass, and other panfish right from those docks.
