Fishing Hook File

Another little device I got from wal-mart: a fish hook file. I am a great believer in sharp hooks for walleye, especially for jigs. Dull hooks won't puncture the palate of larger fish if you don't hit em hard enough.

The hook sharpening file has a groove right down the middle where you can run your hook. With this device, all you need to do is run the hook at a 45 degree angle several strokes on each side and you're done. It works great, and it was recommended to me by a fishing pro, Patrick Campeau, who then went on to publish a short article on the matter in sentier chasse et pĂȘche.

There are several models available, and their prices range from $2 to $20 or more for the battery powered ones.
